Run an Escape Room with a Live Scoreboard

An escape room turns a revision lesson into a race. Kredits has one for every CCEA GCSE and A-level Physics unit. Pupils can play them with nothing to sign in to, and with a free Kredits account you can put a live scoreboard on your board: pupils join with a short game code, and every lock their team opens shows up on your screen.

How to do it
  1. Open Escape Rooms
Sign in to Kredits and choose Escape Rooms in the sidebar (or the Hub). Every room is listed under its course (GCSE Physics, GCSE Chemistry, A-Level Physics, A-Level Chemistry and Practice), with its story name and how long it takes. To narrow the list, pick a subject or a course (GCSE, Double Award or A-level), or search for a topic, such as half-life.
  2. Try a room first
Press Try it to play the room yourself in a new tab. The puzzles change each time, so your class won’t all see the same numbers. Mad Lab is a quick 15-minute warm-up that suits any class.
  3. Set up a scoreboard
Press Set up on a room and choose Any teams. Kredits gives the game its own six-character code, such as K7P4QX, and opens the scoreboard. The code leaves out letters and digits that are easy to mix up on a board, such as 0 and O.
  4. Put the scoreboard on your board
The scoreboard shows kredits.co.uk/escape, the game code in large letters and a QR code. Press Full screen to fill the projector, or choose More ▾ → Dark theme if you prefer a dark screen.
  5. Pupils join with the code
Each team goes to kredits.co.uk/escape on a laptop, tablet or phone and types the code, or scans the QR code. They choose a team name and press Start. They need no account, and their game is saved in the browser if the page is closed by mistake.
  6. Watch the race
Each team’s row shows how many locks it has opened and its time. A wrong answer adds 30 seconds and a hint adds a minute. Teams that escape move to the top, fastest first, and a row lights up whenever a team opens a lock.
  7. Keep the winners secret until the end
Press Hide scores and the board lists the teams by name only, with no places, times or progress. When everyone has finished, press Reveal results: the places are uncovered one at a time from last to first, with a pause before the winner.
  8. Run the room
Close to new teams stops anyone else joining while teams already playing carry on. More ▾ has Copy link, Share to Google Classroom, Hide QR code, Remove teams, Clear board and End scoreboard.
  9. Find it again later
Your scoreboards are listed under Your scoreboards on the Escape Rooms page, with their codes and links. Open one to show it again, or delete it when you’re done: its code stops working.
