Start a Lesson with a Retrieval Do Now

Retrieval practice works best little and often, but writing a fresh starter every lesson takes time. Kredits Retrieval mixes short questions from the topics you have already taught, so you can project a Do Now in seconds. With a class (Kredits Pro), Kredits Konfidence remembers how well the class knows each question and asks the ones it needs most.

How to do it
  1. Open Retrieval
In Kredits, go to Games and choose Retrieval.
  2. Tick the topics you’ve taught
Each tile is a topic (an escape room’s questions). Tick every one you have covered. Tick topics from more than one tab to mix units. Your ticks are remembered on this device.
  3. Choose a class (optional)
With Kredits Pro, pick a class. Its saved topics replace the ticks, and Kredits Konfidence keeps track of how well the class knows each question so the shakiest come up first. With No class, questions are picked at random from the ticked topics.
  4. Choose the course
Choose the specification and tier (Higher or Foundation), so only questions on that course come up. For A-level you can add GCSE warm-up questions. With a class, the course is saved with it.
  5. Choose what to ask and how many
Under Ask, choose Questions, Knowledge cards (definitions, equations, units and facts from the specification, physics and chemistry only) or Both. Pick how many, then press Start.
  6. Run it on the board
The board shows the questions and a 5-minute timer (press it to start or pause). Pupils answer in jotters. Press Swap to change a question, Show next answer to go through them one at a time, or Show all answers. New questions deals a fresh set.
  7. Or send it to devices
Press Send to devices. Pupils scan the QR code or go to kredits.co.uk/join and type the code. Use Play as… beforehand to choose whether they play on their own or in teams Kredits makes. Teacher view shows who has answered on your own device, and Phone remote lets you run the board from your phone.
  8. End and go over it
Press End. The board shows the results for each question and a Go over these list of the ones the class found hardest. With a class, the answers are added to Kredits Konfidence.
